"Burning Soul" arrives on the heels of Immortal Sÿnn’s 20th anniversary, which occurred on September 15. The single also follows the band’s rebranding, moving to a simpler, more instantly recognizable logo that reflects their alignment with the NWOTHM genre, replacing the more nebulous imagery used previously.
"Burning Soul" fits this rebrand perfectly. The song is well-suited for the NWOTHM genre, and could easily be found on playlists among heavy metal classics from the genre’s heyday. One reason for this is that bassist Chaz Grimaldi (formerly of Steve Grimmett’s Grim Reaper and Dave Lombardo’s Grip Inc.) penned the song nearly 40 years ago, during a time when metal was thriving. Listening to the track is like a blast from the past, while still maintaining modern production values. The song's imagery evokes a guitarist plugging into his Marshall amplifier and facing down Satan in Hell—an old-school visual that makes "Burning Soul" feel like a rare gem in today’s scene.
