Tommy Concrete is an artist with anarchy at the core of his music. Based in Scotland, he has been a solo artist since 2001, creating genre-defying albums that span multiple styles of guitar-based music. His latest album, Unrelapsed, his tenth release, delivers a concentrated thirty-minute collection of twenty-two avant-garde blackened hardcore tracks. This work continues the progressive musical themes of his earlier albums but compresses them into short, hardcore-inspired arrangements. To put it in perspective, the total length of Unrelapsed is equivalent to the first two tracks of his previous album, Hexenzirkel.
Lyrically, Unrelapsed delves into the challenges of addiction, but it does so from the triumphant perspective of recovery. The album is equal parts cathartic and chaotic, marking the first project Tommy has crafted since achieving sobriety. It offers a unique viewpoint in his extensive forty-year musical journey.
As a band member, Tommy has been active since 1990, contributing guitar and vocals to bands such as the progressive thrash outfit Warp Spasm, traditional metal with Man of the Hour, doom with Psychotic Depression and Jackal Headed Guard of the Dead, and hardcore with Shitball, Tommy Concrete and the Werewolves. Notably, he also spent a brief period as a guitarist for the Scottish punk legends The Exploited. Musically, Tommy's work exists between metal and punk, incorporating elements of doom, hardcore, and black metal. His solo endeavors push these boundaries further with progressive and experimental ideas.
While Tommy's solo work is typically studio-focused, he has performed live with his band Tommy Concrete and the Werewolves, delivering music inspired by Motörhead alongside unique interpretations of his solo material.
His lyrics explore themes of addiction, disability rights, and social issues, viewed through the lens of an autistic artist with a fascination for juxtaposition and madness.
Unrelapsed will be released digitally through Howling Invocations on November 1, 2024. All pre-orders will be donated to The Willows Cat Hotel, a Scottish animal sanctuary providing a permanent home for cats that are too old or feral to be rehomed.
