The second album, "Thrash på Svenska" (Thrash in Swedish), is a blatant theft from (but more than anything, a salute to) one of Sweden’s best and most iconic records of all time: Jan Johansson’s "Jazz på Svenska". While Jan primarily interprets old folk songs, this album consists entirely of original material. Nevertheless, just like Jan, the band has made sure to capture the folkish melancholy, the longing, and the sense of lost times that resonate within Sweden’s landscapes. A more melodic and sorrowful approach to musical expression has been embraced, blending seamlessly with the band’s core: raw, violent energy and stirring, unbridled force! This time, however, it’s all in Swedish.
Founded in 2021 by Lars Broddesson (ex-Marduk, Funeral Mist session, Nordjevel), HILD is an unwavering outlet of raw energy and unrelenting force, deeply rooted in Nordic myth and mystery. The band delivers a unique blend of Thrash Metal, Black Metal, some Death Metal, and a solid dose of Hardcore and Crust. The themes revolve around battle, strife, struggle, strength, self-empowerment, and facing one’s fate with a fearless heart.
What began as a solo project quickly transformed into a full band due to overwhelming public response. Reborn as a full ensemble, HILD has since proven itself as a truly fierce and celebrated live act. The debut album, "ValFreiya" (Odium Records), was unleashed on October 7, 2022, showcasing a spontaneous creative spark and a "no prisoners" attitude. This debut is notable for having no song longer than 2:30 minutes and for the fact that no track took more than 9 hours to develop from initial concept to finalized product. Each song is a tribute to a specific Valkyrie, channeling their timeless traits.
In spring 2024, the band signed with Black Lion Records. May saw the release of "The Slayeress", a three-song EP solidifying HILD’s position as a serious force in the world of extreme music. The EP title pays homage to Slayer, but ultimately concerns merging with the dark side of the feminine divine and standing up for oneself, refusing to let false prophets dictate one’s path.
The second album, "Thrash på Svenska", was released on October 4th, immediately earning accolades such as "album of the year" and "perfect album". Quite possibly the first album in the genre sung entirely in Swedish, this release blends HILD’s aggressive "go-for-the-throat" style with touches of Swedish folk music and melancholy. The title alludes to Jan Johansson’s classic "Jazz på Svenska", a collection of folk song interpretations.
HILD aims to evoke the feeling of violent rapture and ecstatic rush that only certain high-energy extreme music can summon—that primal, animalistic connection when you feel invincible, yet want to destroy everything around you in total abandon. Like an Ulvhedin, knowing you could die at any second and not caring in the slightest.
