Tomhet is a deeply introspective album by Hädangången, exploring the emptiness that lies within everyone. The lyrics delve into themes of loss and the sorrow felt when losing someone close, and the album contemplates the choice of following them into the afterlife. All lyrics and music were written by Vindsval, the sole member of Hädangången, who also handled the cover art and layout. This is his debut album and was recorded between December 2023 and April 2024 at Oblivion Studio, with vocals recorded in the forests of Västra Götaland to capture the raw atmosphere the project embodies.
Hädangången is a solo project that delves into a deeper aspect of Scandinavian forest and old-school black metal. The project's name means "passing away" in Swedish, and it was born from Vindsval's personal connection to the primitive Scandinavian landscape. The themes of the music focus on frustration, death, rebirth, desolation, emptiness, nature, and the battle of emotions. In June 2023, Hädangången released an EP titled Likfärd, which was limited to 100 professionally printed CDs and available on all streaming platforms. The EP received strong reviews from underground magazines like Metal in Veins and Vm Underground Fanzine.
Drawing inspiration from acts such as Nargaroth, Burzum, Drudkh, Isengard, Hermóðr, None, and Murg, Hädangången’s sound is a blend of atmospheric and raw black metal infused with nature themes. Vindsval’s solitary work on the music, lyrics, and production further heightens the album's haunting and immersive experience.
