Blackened death metal quintet Aoidos, whose name means bard in Ancient Greek, places storytelling at the core of their powerful and atmospheric sound. Fusing haunting melodies from the realms of black metal with the power and groove of death metal, Aoidos presents a collection of evocative and shadowy tales in their forthcoming album, "Oizys", set for release on November 29th, 2024 via Nox Liberatio Records.

The album's title, "Oizys", is named after the Greek goddess of anxiety and depression. Throughout the album, personal stories are intertwined—exploring mental health struggles and witnessing the challenges faced by loved ones. The opener, "Dieaed" (written when Freitanás had food poisoning and lacked a working “S” key on his keyboard), draws inspiration from Hans Zimmer and acts as a cinematic introduction, setting the stage for themes revisited later in "Trauma". "Thrall", the only track without piano, delivers an explosive portrayal of despair and rebellion. "Fire", inspired by the Pedrógão Grande wildfires of 2017, recounts the balance between survival, grief, and loss.

"Oizys" delves into the complexities of mental health, using the metaphor of a toxic relationship. The music reflects this intensity, with a sense of urgency that mirrors the struggle to fight back. "Trauma" is a thrilling soundscape with moments of fleeting serenity amidst heavy instrumentation, featuring lyrics in Portuguese. The acoustic "Old Ballad" offers a brief interlude of calm, giving listeners space to breathe before the intensity of "The Wheels", which leans into elements of black metal, thrash, and punk.

Tracks like "Black Swan" explore the theory of unpredictable, life-altering events, resonating with influences from Gojira and Children of Bodom. "From the Surface Grate" draws inspiration from the world of Warhammer 40,000, depicting struggles under god-like beings. "Slumber" and "All! Wherever! Always!" bring the album to a close, embracing an ambient, chaotic sound that represents an unsettling end.

About Aoidos: Formed in 2019 after a night of mead at Taberna 58 in Coimbra, Portugal, Aoidos draws inspiration from the bards and minstrels of Ancient Greece. Their music combines the fierce energy of death metal with the ethereality of black metal, creating a rich and textured soundscape. Influenced by Gojira, Behemoth, Watain, and classical piano compositions, Aoidos has performed across South West Europe, including festivals like Bajonca Rock Fest, Rock dos Romanos, Mosher Fest, and Melena Fest. Recently, they shared the stage with Vader, Septicflesh, and Moonspell at Laurus Nobilis Music Festival 2024.

With several single releases behind them, Aoidos is now set to unveil their debut album "Oizys" this November.
