Originally released in 2001, "Thorn" was Aerik Von’s first synth/keyboard-based instrumental album, inspired by the Halloween mythos explored in the Michael Myers films of the '80s and '90s. The album was envisioned as an homage to the soundscapes created by John Carpenter, bringing a unique, haunting atmosphere to life.
The 30th Anniversary Edition of "Thorn" includes both the raw, industrialized noise of the 2001 version and a completely re-imagined 2024 edition, with modern MIDI instruments bringing a more polished and dynamic soundscape. The new version aims to finally realize Aerik Von's original vision of crafting a John Carpenter-inspired soundtrack experience.

The 2001 version of "Thorn" was recorded using programmed MIDI files on a basic setup and rendered to tape. In contrast, the 2024 version was meticulously crafted using modern MIDI instruments to achieve a refined, atmospheric sound inspired by John Carpenter's iconic work in the horror genre.
