From the heart of Ukraine, Floscule is making waves in the local metal scene. Comprised of members from bands like White Ward, Silvern, Waidelotte, Obrij, and Vidmershy Shmat, this group is pushing the boundaries of traditional black metal, blending it seamlessly with crust, hardcore, and post-metal influences.

What makes Floscule truly stand out is their ability to breathe new life into Ukraine’s cultural heritage. Their music, visuals, and lyrics weave together the old and the new, with each band member bringing their own unique touch to the mix. Floscule isn’t just recreating what’s been done before—they’re giving ancient traditions a fresh twist that speaks to both their roots and their modern reality.

Their sound is raw and powerful, taking inspiration from Ukrainian folk melodies, but with a heavy, black metal edge. Their lyrics tell stories of warriors, resilience, and the struggles of defending their homeland, all without falling into typical folk-metal territory. It’s a sound that’s deeply rooted in Ukraine’s past but driven by a modern, uncompromising energy.

Their debut album, Ї, is out now through Vendetta Records, available digitally and on LP and CD. The band has also just released a lyric video for their song "A Tree of Life."

"A Tree of Life" is a reimagining of "Oi u Luzi Chervona Kalyna"—a 17th-century Ukrainian patriotic march with deep historical roots. The song became a symbol of Ukraine’s struggle for independence and was banned during Soviet rule. Today, it’s a symbol of resistance, especially in light of the 2014 annexation of Crimea and the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine, where singing it can result in fines or imprisonment.

Floscule takes the original melody and gives it a fierce new form, layering black metal and crust riffs over the iconic tune, while adding their own lyrics. It’s a modern anthem of defiance and resilience.
